Ningbo’s Meishan Container Terminal suspends operations after one Covid-19 case

Ningbo’s Meishan Container Terminal has temporarily suspended all port operations including gate activities, from August 11th, 2021 until further notice. Meishan Bonded Logistics Park (BLP), which is found right next to the terminal, has also halted all operations until further notice. The worker who tested positive for COVID-19 reportedly works within the terminal and lives during a dormitory within the port area. The Port is testing the worker’s close contacts and can close the terminal for thorough disinfection.

Our local teams have confirmed that the nearby Zhoushan Container Terminal and its BLP are maintaining normal operations at the moment; however, thanks to suspended operations at Meishan Terminal, we anticipate there might be port congestion which will affect vessel schedules within the coming days. Relevant authorities will reportedly announce contingency plans and adjustments for port calls at Meishan Terminal shortly. we’ll provide an update once this information becomes available.

As COVID-19 re-emerges in China, multiple regions across China have reported virus outbreaks linked to the highly infectious Delta variant. As of August 10th, 2021, there are 20 high-risk areas across Nanjing, Yangzhou, Zhengzhou, Ruili, Zhangjiajie, Kaifeng, and Zhumadian, also as 204 medium-risk areas across Beijing, Inner Mongolia , Shanghai, Fujian, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Jiangsu Provinces. These risk areas are mostly local districts or residential complexes with COVID-19 community clusters.

Authorities will impose travel restrictions and intensive preventive measures in these areas to regulate the public’s movement. Truckers are prohibited from transporting cargo to/from any high- or medium-risk areas and individuals having been to high or medium risk areas recently are going to be denied entry to warehouse facilities.
