KOLKATA: Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has started a sit-in demonstration ahead of CBI office at Nizam Palace, protesting against the arrest of two Trinamool Congress ministers Subrata Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim and MLA Madan Mitra along side ex-Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee. The CM demanded that she should also be arrested for protesting at Nizam Palace.
The four were arrested by Crime branch India executive in reference to the Narada scam. The Narada tapes were released in 2016.
RC Joshi, Crime branch India executive spokesman said that four former ministers of Trinamool government are arrested.
Trinamool supporters staged a protest against the arrests ahead of Nizam Palace.
The CBI has asked for extra central forces for deployment because the agitators try to interrupt the barricade ahead of the Nizam Palace. The supporters demanded release of the Trinamool leaders. They shouted slogans against BJP and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.
MoS for health Chandrima Bhattacharya claimed that this was a political ploy of BJP.
CBI arrests other Bengal ministers illegal in Narada case : Assembly speaker
West Bengal assembly speaker Biman Banerjee on Monday dubbed as illegal the arrest of two Bengal ministers et al. within the Narada case, contending that the CBI action on the idea of the governor’s sanction was unlawful.
“I haven’t received any letter from the CBI nor has anybody sought permission from me as per the protocol,” Banerjee said.
