Chris Morris (RR) became the most expensive ever player at an IPL auction while Krishnappa Gowtham (CSK) became the most expensive Indian uncapped player at the IPL 2021 auction. Cheteshwar Pujara was sold to Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians acquired Arjun Tendulkar.
A total of 292 players were enlisted for the shortened auctions — 164 of them Indian and 125 overseas. With the IPL back in India after being held within the UAE last year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the main target are going to be on big-hitters also as slow bowlers.
This will be the enduring image of this auction. The concentration of massive bucks spent on a couple of players. These five – Chris Morris, Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson and K Gowtham – together were worth a whopping 68.75 crore.
To put that in perspective the entire spend by franchises was 145.3 crore. So almost 50% of the entire spend was on 5 players, the remainder was on 52 players
